Homecoming--Inner Child Work

It seems the more things change, the more they remain the same. I felt called to reread a book a couple of weeks ago. It's "Homecoming" by John Bradshaw. Bradshaw I'd describe as the "Dr. Phil" of the 80's. It's not so much that he brought anything NEW to psychology, but he brought to public attention so many other folks' good ideas that he did a lot of good for us folks from addiction-ridden families. Anyway, in looking at it for the first time since I initially worked through it in 1992, I discovered a theory of 13-year cycles in our emotional development. Hmmm......2005 - 1992 = 13! It then lines out the age ranges: 0-13; 13-26; 26-39; 39-52; etc. My age in 1992--39! My current age--52! Someone in a 12-step program once told me the adage "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear!" It looks like I need more lessons from this book; I'm working through some of the meditations Bradshaw presents again, and they are bearing fruit, and baring pain. It's the onion principle at work: In healing work, one peels a layer at a time, with tears. Thanks be to God for guidance that seems to come out of the blue. Thanks be to God that I pull my head out occasionally to listen it!

Name:
Location: Texas, United States

I'm a product of the Texas Panhandle and now live in way south Texas, 20 miles from the ocean. I'm a music teacher, retired due to health reasons. I've raised beagles for years, but currently only have 1; His name is Webber, after Andrew Lloyd Webber. I have been adopted by a doxie/beagle/terrier/? mix named Poochie. Trying to make HIS name into a musical one brought variations like Puccini (a real opera composer) and Poocherelli. I also have been adopted by 3 feral kitties for whom I pay vet bills. They have attracted 3 more who are too feral to be touched yet. I am an Episcopalian grown from generations of Methodist roots, and happy to be so. I have a wicked sense of humor, but I'm generally quiet and a bit shy. I have always loved reading and writing, so here I am!
