Do you know what a difficult thing is?
Being the "ex", the "retired", or the "former"
anything while still in the church in which you
served! I'm finding it quite difficult to be the
"retired-due-to-health, not-to-age" organist
of my congregation. (See previous post for
confirmation of that)
I stumbled last night into playing for church
this coming Sunday. Our pianist/choral director
told us at choir practice that she would be
absent on Sunday. When no mention was
made of who her substitute would be, I flat
out ASKED her later in private if it was
intended that I play. Well, no one had
thought of that, and they knew I wasn't
feeling well, and so on............... Geeze
Louise, I'm offended by the thought that
we'd have All Saints with NO music
whatsoever, and I'm hurt that I wasn't
asked and at least given an opportunity
to refuse if I felt ill. Communication
simply sucks around here. Anyway,
I DID volunteer to play, and I did,
with the director's and the priest's
permission, pick out the hymns, so
here we go!
And by the way, WHEN did ECUSA
move All Saints to November?
I was prepared to celebrate it last
week. Perhaps I'm confused about
the direction in which one moves a
feast which falls on a weekday?
can move them forward to the next
Sunday but not backwards to the
previous Sunday?Well, never mind.
How can one celebrate All Saints sans
music? One MUST sing "For all the
saints who from their labors rest",
and certainly "I sing a song of the
saints of God.......and I want to be
one, too". Well, St. Andrew's will
be able to DO that this coming Sunday,
thanks be to God!
God grant me, I humbly ask,
the strength, health, and mental
focus to carry this off successfully
so that we may make a joyful noise
unto the Lord!
